FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - Julian Edelman was named AFC Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Patriots' 35-14 victory over the Miami Dolphins last Sunday. It is the first AFC Offensive Player of the Week honor for Edelman.Â
Edelman caught eight passes for a career-high 151 yards against Miami. It was his second 100-yard game of 2016 and the 11th of his career (nine in the regular season and two in the postseason). Edelman scored on a 77-yard touchdown in the third quarter, a career long. His previous best was a 69-yard touchdown at San Diego on Dec. 7, 2014. Edelman entered the Miami game needing 45 yards to reach the 1,000-yard mark. He finished the season with a career high 1,106 yards. He joins Wes Welker (5), Rob Gronkowski (3), Randy Moss (3), Stanley Morgan (3) and Terry Glenn (2) as the only Patriots players with at least two 1,000-yard seasons. Edelman had 1,065 yards receiving in 2013.Â
It is the ninth time this season that a Patriots player has earned an NFL honor. QB Tom Brady was named AFC Offensive Player of the Week following his Week 5 performance at Cleveland and in Week 11 at San Francisco. He was also named AFC Offensive Player of the Month for October. P Ryan Allen was named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance vs. Houston in Week 3. RB LeGarrette Blount was named AFC Offensive Player of the Month for September. K Stephen Gostkowski was named AFC Special teams Player of the week following Week 1 at Arizona and in Week 13 vs. Los Angeles, while LB Dont'a Hightower earned AFC Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in a Week 6 win vs. Cincinnati.
