NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Tennessee Titans finally dove into the free agent market on Wednesday. Not by signing any players, at least not yet.
Team officials did bring in five free agents to talk, including defensive end Jevon Kearse and running back Julius Jones.
The Titans have signed only tight end Alge Crumpler since free agency opened last Friday, and that move didn't come until Monday. In that time, five former Titans have found big contracts with other teams.
On Wednesday, the Titans hosted five free agents led by Kearse, who started his career in Tennessee in 1999 before leaving for Philadelphia in 2004 when the Titans couldn't afford to keep him. Kearse, who had only 3.5 sacks last season, could help fill the holes left by departed defensive ends Antwan Odom and Travis LaBoy.
Odom, who started all 16 games for the Titans last season, signed a five-year deal worth $29.5 million with the Bengals on Monday night. LaBoy landed a five-year deal with the Cardinals, worth a reported $22 million.
The other visitors included Jones, restricted free agent defensive back Chris Carr, guard Jake Scott and defensive end Josh Thomas. Scott could fill an immediate need with left guard Jacob Bell signing with St. Louis on Monday while taking a player away from AFC South rival Indianapolis.
