HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (June 27, 2005) -- The New York Jets signed former linebackers Mo Lewis and Marvin Jones so they can retire as members of the team.
Lewis and Jones were released in March 2004 and never signed with another team. They officially will retire June 28 and will be honored at a home game during the upcoming season.
"The Jets are proud that Mo and Marvin are retiring as New York Jets," general manager Terry Bradway said. "It's rare today to have one player play his entire career with one team, and in this instance, the Jets have two and it's a tribute to both gentlemen."
Lewis was the Jets' third-round draft choice in 1991, and served as defensive captain from 1997 until his final season in 2003. He played in 200 regular-season games, ranking sixth on the all-time Jets list for most career games. He also ranks fourth on the all-time list with 52.5 career sacks and second with 1,370 career tackles.
Jones, the fourth overall pick in the 1993 draft, played in 142 games in his 11 seasons and ranks third in team history with 1,200 tackles.
