FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – For the 11th consecutive year, the New England Patriots Foundation will serve as an official charity of the Boston Marathon. As part of their selection, the foundation has received a limited number of marathon bibs to field a team of charity runners that will run the 26.2 mile course on Patriots Day.
All runners are required to raise a minimum of $7,500 with all proceeds supporting the New England Patriots Foundation. The funds raised by the team will be earmarked for the 2019 Myra Kraft Community MVP Awards program, which honors volunteers from across New England. Myra Kraft Community MVP winners are recognized for their leadership, dedication and a commitment to bettering their communities during a luncheon at Gillette Stadium and each volunteer receives a donation for their nonprofit organization.
Over the past 10 years, Patriots marathon runners have raised more than $2 million to support New England based nonprofit organizations through the Myra Kraft Community MVP Awards.
"We are honored to once again field a team of runners for the Boston Marathon," said Josh Kraft, President of the Patriots Foundation. "With the support of the Boston Athletic Association, we are able to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars that are funneled directly back into our New England communities. It's always exciting to be a part of such a historic race and we look forward to seeing all of our runners cross the finish line on Patriots Day."
Since the team's inception, the Patriots marathon team has featured first-time marathon runners, lifetime marathoners, season ticket members, avid Patriots fans and a former player. Those who are selected to join the Patriots team will receive an official Patriots Boston Marathon team uniform, access to a 20-week training program from a marathon coach, fundraising tips from the foundation, fundraising incentive prizes and more.
The New England Patriots Foundation is currently accepting applications on a rolling basis. For more information on the New England Patriots Boston Marathon team, visit www.patriots.com/community/marathon-team.
