A day after he was introduced by the Cleveland Browns, Shaun Rogers has a new long-term contract.
The Browns reached agreement Wednesday on a new deal for the newly acquired Rogers, giving him a six-year, $42 million deal that includes over $20 million in guaranteed money, reports NFL Network's Adam Schefter.
Rogers passed a physical and officially joined the Browns on Tuesday.
The Browns got Rogers in a trade with Detroit late Friday, one of several moves to overhaul their defensive line in the offseason. Rogers will be used at nose tackle and end in Cleveland's 3-4 alignment, teaming with newcomer Corey Williams.
Williams was acquired Friday from Green Bay for a second-round pick. The Browns sent cornerback Leigh Bodden and a third-round pick to Detroit for Rogers, who had come under criticism for his consistency and his weight.
The 6-foot-4 lineman is listed at 340 pounds. He declined to say what he currently weighs.
"I was born 10 pounds and 1 ounce," Rogers said. "So it's always been an issue. But I've managed to play good football throughout my life. The past is the past. I want to develop a new reputation and just move on."
Rogers was upbeat about coming to Cleveland, where he thinks he has a better chance of making the playoffs. The Browns won 10 games last season but failed to make the playoffs, scuttling their chances with a 19-14 loss in Cincinnati late in the season.
The Bengals were working on a trade for Rogers and had a tentative agreement that fell through on Friday, leaving an opening for the Browns to swing the deal.
"It gives me a new lease on life," Rogers said. "Hopefully I can be a big part of the plan and go out there and try to be dominant and help bring a championship to the Browns."
The Browns also signed receiver Donte' Stallworth to a seven-year deal on Saturday, giving them a No. 2 receiver to complement Braylon Edwards. Stallworth played last season for New England, which let him become a free agent.
The Browns will be his fourth team since August 2006. He started nine games for New England last season, catching 46 passes for 697 yards and three touchdowns.
"I'm excited," Stallworth said, on a conference call. "Those guys won 10 games last year. They have a lot of young talent. I'm excited to bring what I bring."
