Mike Reiss of ESPNBoston.com considers a Patriots trade for Houston Texans WR Andre Johnson a "longshot at this point."

"The primary thought is if the Texans get to the point that they do consider trading Johnson (a big "if"), it would be better business for them to do so with an NFC team (keep Johnson out of the conference)," adds Reiss. "One additional thought not related to the Patriots in this situation: If Johnson has done his homework on new head coach Bill O'Brien, it's hard to imagine why he wouldn't want to play in his offense. It's receiver-friendly, for sure." READ MORE>>

Nick Underhill of MassLive.com reports that Patriots WR Aaron Dobson is not expected to be ready for the start of organized team activities, which begin on May 27, according to a source. Dobson reportedly underwent foot surgery in March.

"It is not a surprising development since Dobson's projected recovery time was 2-3 months," writes Underhill. "After undergoing surgery on March 9, OTAs would put him on the early end of that timetable. If Dobson misses all of the OTAs, the next key event on New England's offseason calendar is minicamp, which begins June 17." READ MORE>>

Doug Kyed](http://nesn.com/2014/05/patriots-post-draft-roster-reset-tight-end-justin-jones-has-giant-upside/) of NESN.com writes that Rob Gronkowski and Michael Hoomanawanui are the only locks to make the Patriots roster at tight end, and adds that undrafted rookie free agents Justin Jones and Asa Watson could be a practice squad candidates.

"Jones has the best chance at making the Patriots' roster based on size, athleticism and college production alone, but how they perform during OTAs, minicamp and training camp will decide their fate on the Patriots' roster," notes Kyed. READ MORE>>

Christopher Price of WEEI.com believes that a starting point for a potential trade with the Houston Texans for WR Andre Johnson would begin with Ryan Mallett and a second or third round draft pick.

"Ultimately, the Patriots should be expected to at least inquire about the possibility of Johnson," writes Price. "But unless the receiver is willing to re-work his contract — or New England is able to move a lot of money around over the next couple of weeks — it seems like a bit of a long shot, at least at this point." Pat Kirwan of CBS Sports writes that if the Texans decide to trade Andre Johnson, the Patriots would be one of the teams to get strong consideration as a trade partner.

"If New England was involved I would want a wide receiver like Aaron Dobson and a third-round pick," adds Kirwan. READ MORE>>
