FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (Aug. 7, 2006) -- The New England Patriots activated five players from the physically unable to perform list, including safety Rodney Harrison, defensive lineman Richard Seymour and center Dan Koppen.
Defensive back Randall Gay and defensive lineman Johnathan Sullivan also came off the PUP list, which kept them from practicing with the team in training camp. Safety Mel Mitchell and rookie wide receiver Matt Shelton have been placed on injured reserve and will sit out the entire 2006 season.
Harrison missed most of last season after tearing three ligaments in his left knee in New England's Sept. 25 game at Pittsburgh. Seymour, who has played in four consecutive Pro Bowls, missed the first 10 days of camp with a tight quadriceps.
Koppen (shoulder) and Gay (ankle) missed the last seven games of the 2005 regular season.
Sullivan was acquired by the Patriots from the New Orleans Saints this summer in exchange for wide receiver Bethel Johnson.
Mitchell hurt his arm, and Shelton his knee and groin.
