FOXBORO, Mass. – The New England Patriots and the New York Giants will conduct a single-session joint practice at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst on Thursday, July 27. The practice will be held in Warren McGuirk Alumni Stadium (17,000) and is scheduled to begin at noon. Admission to the practice is free. The university will collect $5.00 from patrons parking within the stadium lots.
The last time the Patriots practiced against another team during training camp was in 1992 when they scrimmaged against the Giants in the Yale Bowl.
NEWS AND NOTES – MONDAY, JULY 17
The Patriots waived two players today, offensive tackle Ed Ellis and tight end Kerry Taylor. Ellis, 24, played in nine career games, including one start with the Patriots. He made his NFL starting debut at right tackle vs. Indianapolis (9/19/99). The 6-foot-7-inch, 330-pound offensive lineman was originally drafted with the Patriots' own selection in the fourth round (125th overall) of the 1997 NFL draft. Taylor, 23, was signed onto the Patriots practice squad (9/7/99) and then later signed onto their active roster (1/5/00). The 6-foot-2-inch, 225-pound tight end was originally signed by the Detroit Lions as a rookie free agent (4/28/99), but was later released (9/6/99).
The kickoff time for the New England Patriots 2000 preseason opener in the annual Hall of Fame game in Canton, Ohio has been changed. The game between the Patriots and the San Francisco 49ers is now scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. ET.
Approximately 2,000 fans attended today's workout sessions in Foxboro on the opening day of training camp.
