Patriots linebacker Monty Beisel showed flashes of why Bill Belichick and Scott Pioli of why they thought so highly of him as to sign him a free agent. Beisel led the team with 5 tackles including three solo in the 23-13 win over the Cincinnati Bengals. "Monty did some good things out there," Belichick said. "He had a lot of positive plays, some he could have done better . . . some things that were new to him, even though we've seen them in practice and talked about them. Patriots quarterback Matt Cassel has been the talk of training camp and looked sharp during during Friday's preseason game. Shalise Manza Young of the Providence Journal writes that Bill Belichick noted to the media yesterday to not get to ahead of ourselves in the evaluation of Cassel as he has only played in one preseason game. "Look, Matt came in, he did a good job," Belichick said. "I'm not saying ... the guy played one preseason game, made a lot of mistakes, came out and made some good plays. But it's a little too early to start working on his bust for Canton. I think it's way too early for that." Patriots wide receivers Bam Childress and Jason Anderson played a big part in the 23-13 win over the Cincinnati Bengals in Friday's preseason opener. Childress caught three passes for 39 yards and Anderson caught two passes for 24 yards. Though both wide receivers made an impression, they may be battling for a wide receiver spot that does not exist reports Alan Greenberg of the Hartford Courant.
