In today’s news blitz, rookie Brandon Tate is discussed, Junior Seau’s comeback lingers on, find out Jerod Mayo’s injury status, learn an offensive statistic contributing to the team's success and see where the team landed in ESPN.com's power rankings.

With WR Joey Gallowaystruggling to grasp the offensive system, WRs Julian Edelmanand Sam Aikenhave seen more reps. Another name could picture into the offense in the coming weeks as rookie WR Brandon Tate recovers from a torn ACL and MCL suffered during his senior season at North Carolina. Tate's eligible to come off the non-football injury list after the team's Oct. 18 game against the Tennessee Titans. Find out what Director of player personnel Nick Caserio had to say about Tate according to the Boston Herald.

The Sun Chronicle reports retired LB Junior Seau remains unsigned. According to the story, "the need for Seau doesn't seem overly pressing" because the defense has played well enough so far.

LB Jerod Mayo, who suffered a sprained MCL in the season opener against the Buffalo Bills, could return soon as his health improves according to the Sun Chronicle.

According to the Boston Globe, the Patriots rank third behind the Giants and Dolphins in average time of possession. Although big pass plays have been lacking, the longest being 36-yard Brady to Baker touchdown reception against the Falcons, the Patriots have controlled the clock even if that's not in the game plan. "I don't think we focus on it a whole lot. I don't know how important it is," Bill Belichick said. "I think the more important statistic is points. If you possess the ball and don't score - like what happened in the first half of the Jets game - I don't know how much good it really does you."

ESPN.com released its power rankings and the Patriots moved up a spot. Click here to find out their new position.
