As Tom Curran of The Providence Journal reported yesterday, the Patriots may very well look to draft a wide receiver with one of their first-day picks come April 23rd. Patriots.com's Frank Tadych assesses the team’s wide receiver situation. Tadych maps out the various routes the Patriots can choose to take regarding the position between now and September. On one hand, the team could certainly leave the roster status quo, letting incumbents like Bethel Johnson and P.K. Sam, or new addition Tim Dwight duke it out for the third receiver position. On the other hand, as Tadych notes, the team could dip into an ever-thinning free agent pool, or roll the dice at next month's draft.
Chris Warner of Allsports.com takes a shot at predicting the Patriots moves in the upcoming draft. Warner suggests the team will take Florida linebacker Channing Crowder, who was featured yesterday by The MetroWest Daily News' Mike Reiss, if he is still available. Should he be gone by the 32nd pick, Warner tabs Oklahoma receiver Mark Clayton as a dark-horse possibility.
FoxSports.com is running an AP article by Tom Coyne updating former Patriots offensive coordinator Charlie Weis’ new job as head coach at the University of Notre Dame.
