In today's News Blitz, defensive powerhouse Richard Seymour made an appearance at camp. Long snapper Lonnie Paxton has some insights about how the kicking competition is playing out.

The Boston Globe's *Mike Reiss offers an interview with defensive end Richard Seymour, who made an appearance at practice yesterday. Seymour says that he hasn't been in the team's first 12 practices because of a tight quadriceps, but he could play if a game were scheduled this week. The *Boston Herald's John Tomase also has an interview with Seymour.

Globe writers Mike Reiss and Jerome Solomon offer camp notes, including an update on linebacker Tedy Bruschi. Also, a group of NFL officials visited camp yesterday and linebacker Chad Brown may be injured.

Michael Felger, Herald writer, offers an interview with long snapper Lonnie Paxton on the kicking competition between veteran Martin Gramatica and rookie Stephen Gostkowsk "It's great competition, and that's what we want," said Paxton.

In another piece, Felger explains why he thinks the AFC is like baseball's American League. The AFC has won seven of the last nine Super Bowls.

Also, Felger speculates at the playing time of running back Kevin Faulk. Faulk has been crisp during much of training camp.

The Boston Herald's John Tomase explains the new NFL rules, and offers notes on Coach Belichick's reaction. Also Johnathan Sullivan appears and James Sanders is rarin' to go.

The Providence Journal's Tom Curran explains that the problem with Branch's negotiations is that they're bogged down in sorting out details. Branch's agent told *the Journal *last week that if the Pats won't use the franchise tag on Branch in 2007, he'll report to camp and play under his current deal. If the Patriots are fining Branch the maximum of $14,000 per day during his holdout, he's up to $112,000 in fines.
