Patriots Locker Room Quotes

New England Patriots players comment on their upcoming games against the Panthers.

Wes Welker, Wide Receiver
(On the offense's level of execution in the red area)
"Well, execution is one of the main things. We have to understand that we're in the red area and know that we have to take our game to another level. The spaces are tighter and you're going to have to compete a little bit more. That's what it comes down to."

(On the preparation for this week's game)
"We have to have a good week of practice and make sure that we're coming out, hitting on all cylinders. That's kind of what it comes down to, but we have a lot of guys who work hard, and set a good example. And we need to have those guys continue to do that, bring some of these other guys along and make sure everybody's pulling on the same rope."

(On overcoming a two-game losing streak)
"I think we have a lot of guys that are fighters, and we're going to continue to battle and get better on a daily basis. That's what it comes down to. We just need to make sure that we're doing that."

Kevin Faulk, Running Back
(On people questioning the team's commitment)
"When you lose games, everything gets looked at. Everybody's tries to point at every little thing you do, the way you tie your shoes, the way you blink your eyes - that's just human nature. When you're winning, it's 'OK, well, what can you do now?'"

(On putting in hard work at practice)
"That's how we've got to where we are as a team, as an organization, and that's what we're doing. That's what we've got to continue to do. We know that things are not perfect right now - far from it - but at the same time if you continue working on it that's where you're going to get."

(On the sense of urgency after back-to-back losses)
"None, the only sense of urgency is to go out there and practice hard today. That's the sense of urgency, to go out there and correct the mistakes that we've had the past two weeks. That's the only thing that's going to get us in the right direction of where we want to be."

Tully Banta-Cain, Linebacker
(On creating an identity as a team)
"Every season is different and the season defines the team. There's adversity in every season, so that's where you get to find out what kind of character you have year to year."

(On establishing the pass rush)
"I just think that it's a team effort to get to the quarterback and I think right now we're just not playing our best as a team. I think the best way to do it is to have all 11 guys doing their job."

(On the defense's performance in the losses)
"I think they're capitalizing on our mistakes. It's something that when a team is down in a game, you have to fight to throw your best punches to get back into the game. We're not doing our best to throw those punches when we're down and that's what we're going to have to do to if we're going to be around."

Sammy Morris, Running Back
(On the team heeding Tom Brady's message after Sunday's loss)
"Well, I think we all know that or have felt it. I think with him saying it just puts a little bit more emphasis on it. But I actually think that we're all on the same page and realize that we have a lot of things to correct and fortify."
