FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - The New England Patriots announced today that DE Andre Carter has been placed on injured reserve with a leg injury. In addition, the Patriots signed DL Cedric McKinley to the practice squad.
Carter, 32, signed with the Patriots on Aug. 8, 2011. Carter, 6-4, 255 pounds, originally entered the NFL as a first round draft pick (7th overall) of San Francisco in 2001 out of California. He was signed by Washington as an unrestricted free agent on March 15, 2006.
Carter has started all 14 games for New England in 2011 and has 59 tackles and 10.0 sacks. He tied a franchise record with 4.0 sacks at the Jets on Nov. 13, 2011 and was named AFC Defensive Player of the Week for his performance.
McKinley, 24, was originally signed by the Minnesota Vikings as a rookie free agent out of Minnesota on May 4, 2010 but was released prior to the start of training camp. He was re-signed by Minnesota on July 31, 2011 and has spent part of the 2011 season on the Vikings' practice squad.
