FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Patriots announced that they have re-signed unrestricted free agent tackle Sebastian Vollmer. Terms of the contract were not announced.

Vollmer, 28, is a veteran of four NFL seasons with New England after joining the team as a second-round draft choice out of Houston in 2009. The 6-foot-8, 320-pounder, has played in 51 games with 44 starts in the regular season and has started in five postseason games. Last season, he started 15 games at right tackle and started in both postseason games.

Vollmer was born in Duesseldorf, Germany and did not start playing football until he was 14 years old for the Duesseldorf club team. That led him to playing for the national team that participated in the Global Junior Championships in San Diego, Calif., where he was recruited by the University of Houston.
