FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - The New England Patriots announced today that LB Jeff Tarpinian has been signed from the practice squad to the 53-man roster. In addition, the Patriots released LB A.J. Edds and signed rookie CB Josh Victorian to the practice squad.
Tarpinian, 6-3, 238 pounds, originally signed with the Patriots on July 27, 2011 as a rookie free agent out of Iowa. He was released by the Patriots on September 12, 2011 and signed to the practice squad on September 14, 2011. Tarpinian began his college career at Iowa as a defensive back before moving to linebacker during the spring of 2007. He was a top special teams player as well as a starter at linebacker during his career and recorded 97 total tackles, two sacks, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.
Victorian, 5-10, 190 pounds, went to training camp with Baltimore after signing with the Ravens as a rookie free agent out of Louisiana Tech.
Edds, 6-4, 246 pounds, was claimed off waivers and awarded to the Patriots from Miami on September 7, 2011. He was originally drafted by Miami in the fourth round (199th overall) of the 2010 NFL Draft out of Iowa. He spent his rookie season on injured reserve with a knee injury. Edds was a four-year letterman and a three-year starter at Iowa.
