FOXBOROUGH, Mass.- The New England Patriots signed first-year safety Curry Burns to the team's practice squad today. Burns fills the practice squad vacancy created when safety Russell Stuvaints was signed to the Pittsburgh Steelers' active roster on Monday. The Patriots' practice squad now stands at its limit of eight players.
Burns, 23, was originally drafted by the Houston Texans in the seventh round (217th overall) of the 2003 NFL Draft. The 6-foot, 203-pound Miami native played in the final regular-season game of the 2003 season for Houston, recording a special teams tackle against Indianapolis on Dec. 28, 2003. He was waived by the Texans following 2003 training camp (8/25/03) and went on to spend time on the Oakland Raiders' practice squad before being re-signed by the Texans to the active roster (12/2/03). The University of Louisville product was inactive for three games with Houston before making his NFL debut in the 2003 season finale. This season, Burns played in the Texans' first three preseason games before being waived by Houston on Aug. 30, 2004.
