SMITHFIELD, RI – The New England Patriots waived Noel Scarlett and Tony Ortiz today.
Scarlett, 26, was claimed off waivers from the Minnesota Vikings on Dec. 22, 1999. The 6-foot-3-inch, 320-pound defensive tackle played in NFL Europe for the Scottish Claymores during the 2000 NFL Europe season. The Atlanta, Ga. native played his collegiate football at Langston (Okla.).
Ortiz, 23, was originally claimed off waivers from the Dallas Cowboys on July 14, 2000. The 6-foot, 225-pound special teams performer played his collegiate football for Nebraska.
