Pats offseason transaction timeline, NFL calendar

With today marking the start of the Patriots offseason strength and conditioning program, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to stop and examine all that the team has done, transaction-wise, this longer-than-usual offseason. Plus, a look at what's coming up on the NFL calendar.

Patriots 2009 transactions to date

Jan. 27 – Hired Floyd Reese as senior football advisor

Feb. 3 – Hired Scott O'Brien as special teams coach; Bill O'Brien named quarterbacks coach; Josh Boyer promoted to defensive backs coach

Feb. 5 – Designated QB Matt Cassel as franchise player

Feb. 12 – Promoted Shane Waldron to tight ends coach; Jon Robinson promoted to director of college scouting; Monti Ossenfort promoted to national scout

Feb. 18 – Signed LB Tully Banta-Cain and TE Brad Listorti

Feb. 20 – Re-signed OL Billy Yates

Feb. 25 – Hired Chad O'Shea as wide receivers coach; hired Jason Licht as director of pro personnel

Feb. 27 – Signed RB Fred Taylor

Feb. 28 – Traded QB Matt Cassel and LB Mike Vrabel to Kansas City Chiefs

Mar. 2 – Re-signed OL Russ Hochstein; signed TE Chris Baker

Mar. 5 – Acquired WR Greg Lewis in trade with Philadelphia Eagles; re-signed LB Eric Alexander, P Chris Hanson, and S James Sanders; released LB Darrell Robertson

Mar. 10 – Signed LS Nathan Hodel

Mar. 11 – Signed defensive backs Shawn Springs and Leigh Bodden

NFL Calendar – Important dates coming up

Mar. 22 - 25 -- NFL Annual Meeting (Dana Point, Calif.)

Apr. 17 -- Signing period ends for restricted free agents

Apr. 24 -- Deadline for old club to exercise right of first refusal to restricted free agents

Apr. 25-26 -- NFL Draft (New York City)

May 18 - 20 -- NFL Spring Meeting (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.)

Jun. 1 -- Deadline for old clubs to send tender to unsigned unrestricted free agents to receive exclusive negotiating rights for rest of season if player is not signed by another club by July 22. Deadline for old clubs to send tender to unsigned restricted free agents or to extend qualifying offer to retain exclusive negotiating rights.

Jun. 15 - Deadline for old clubs to withdraw original qualifying offer to unsigned restricted free agents and still retain exclusive negotiating rights by substituting tender of 110 percent of previous year's salary.

Jun. 28 - Jul. 1 -- NFL Rookie Symposium (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.)

Mid-to-late July -- Training camps open

Jul. 22 -- Signing period ends at 4 p.m. ET for unrestricted free agents who received June 1 tender.

Aug. 8 -- Pro Football Hall of Fame induction ceremony (Canton, Ohio)

Aug. 9 -- Pro Football Hall of Fame Game (Canton, Ohio)

Aug. 13 - 17 -- First preseason weekend.

Sep. 1 -- Roster cutdown to maximum of 75 players.

Sept. 5 -- Roster cutdown to maximum of 53 players.

Sep. 10-14 -- Kickoff 2009 Weekend
