FOXBORO, Mass. (July 20, 2005) -- The New England Patriots signed their third- and fourth-round draft picks, tackle Nick Kaczur and safety James Sanders.
That leaves the team's top two picks in April's draft unsigned with rookies scheduled to report to training camp on July 24.
Third-round selection Kaczur, a 6-foot-4, 319-pound lineman, was a four-time All-MAC player at Toledo. He had 51 career starts in college, and in 2001 became the first freshman to start on Toledo's offensive line since 1978.
Fourth-round selection Sanders, a 5-foot-10, 207-pound safety, had 238 career tackles and seven interceptions, returning one for a touchdown, at Fresno State. He also had seven sacks, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.
He was an All-WAC selection in 2003 and 2004.
The Patriots previously signed fifth-round linebacker Ryan Claridge, and seventh-round quarterback Matt Cassel.
First-round pick Logan Mankins, an offensive lineman, and third-round pick Ellis Hobbs, a defensive back, remain unsigned.
