FOXBOROUGH, Mass.- The New England Patriots waived rookie tight end Andy Mignery (pronounced: MINN-er-EE) today. The Patriots now report 80 players on their active roster, including those carrying NFL Europe exemptions.
Mignery, 23, was signed by the Patriots as an undrafted free agent on May 2, 2004. The 6-foot-3-inch, 250-pound native of Hamilton, Ohio did not play in either of the Patriots' two preseason games. Mignery attended the University of Michigan, where he was recruited as a quarterback but made the transition to tight end as a junior in 2002. In his college career, he played in 29 games with 10 starts, starting eight of 13 contests at tight end as a senior in 2003. In his final season in Ann Arbor, he caught four passes for 48 yards and two touchdowns. He also received the Dr. Arthur Robinson Award as Michigan's top football student-athlete and was a three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree (2000, 2002-03).
