Patriots Football Weekly has created a weekly Power Ranking based on the proprietary Wilson-Hart Power Index. The system uses the most important statistics in the game — those most closely associated to winning and losing — to rank all 32 NFL teams based on their performance to date this season.
Given the Seahawks impressive blowout of the previously No. 2-ranked Saints in Seattle on Monday night, it's no surprise that the Legion of Boom maintains its top spot in the Wilson-Hart Power Index this week. What is notable is the Seahawks Index number and how far ahead of the now No. 2-ranked Panthers Pete Carrol''s team is. According to the statistics, Carolina is actually closer to the No. 10-ranked Broncos than it is to the No. 1 overall spot. Seattle is as highly ranked and as far ahead of the competition at this point in the season as any team we've seen previously in the Index.
After the Panthers, the Chiefs and Saints are now tied for the No. 3 spot, just ahead of the Patriots at No. 5.
As we've seen in recent weeks, late season action only alters the Index a bit on a weekly basis. No team rose or fell more than three slots this week, and 14 of 32 teams actually remained in the same spot where they resided a week ago.
The Jaguars continue to hold onto the basement in the Index, although the Texans are now at No. 31 and making a push to give Jacksonville a run for its money after Houston lost its 10th straight game at the hands of the Patriots.
