As is expected at this still-early point in the NFL season where the sample of stats remains relatively small, there was significant movement throughout this week's PFW Power Rankings based on the Wilson-Hart Power Index.
We'll start with the Patriots, who jumped up six spots to No. 8 overall thanks to Sunday night's impressive blowout of the previously No. 1-ranked Bengals in Foxborough. One week doesn't completely wipe away a month of suspect play, but New England made a nice step toward the top of the Index with its bounce back home effort.
While the Bengals dropped a couple spots thanks to their embarrassing road loss, San Diego now takes over sole possession of the No. 1 overall spot in the Index as the Chargers continue to play impressive football on both sides of the ball.
The Broncos also made a nice jump up the Index, moving nine slots to No. 5 overall. Denver's opponent in last February's Super Bowl is also on the move in the upward direction, Seattle working up eight spots to No. 6 overall as some of the NFL's expected elite begin to prove it statistically.
Detroit, thanks to missed field goals in a home loss to the Bills, made the biggest drop of the week by falling 13 spots to No. 16 overall. The Cardinals and Chiefs also fell double-digits in the Wilson-Hart rankings in just a week.
The bottom of the rankings are holding somewhat consistent with the Jaguars hanging on to No. 32 and the Raiders holding tight at No. 30. Patriots fans also probably enjoy seeing the Jets near the basement, dropping four spots with another loss to settle in at No. 31.
Check back next week for another look how the best and worst teams in the NFL are trending, at least statistically speaking.
