With some down time before training camp, we're inspecting the Patriots roster position by position. Today, an examination of the QBs.
LOCKS: Tom Brady, Brian Hoyer
BUBBLE: Danny Etling
LONG SHOTS: None
BREAKDOWN: In his ongoing battle versus Father Time, Tom Brady continues to emerge victorious by virtue of his elite level of performance. Still, the question of how much longer he'll wage war with old age persists. Yet, the QB that many refer to as "The GOAT" (Greatest of All Time) recently published social media posts of himself working out with teammate Julian Edelman, evidently to demonstrate that he's still very much committed to helping New England try to win another Super Bowl.
After Brady, however, the depth chart at quarterback is much less solid. Brian Hoyer returns for his 10th NFL season and the second year of his second stint with the team. Rounding out the roster is rookie Danny Etling, selected in the seventh round of this year's draft. Neither man is nearly as trusted to lead the offense as 2017's backup and third-string duo of Jimmy Garoppolo and Jacoby Brissett.
No matter. As long as Brady is here and playing the kind of football he's been accustomed to throughout his nearly two decades in Foxborough, the team is in good hands.
