FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - The New England Patriots waived three players today; veteran punter Daniel Pope and rookies Spencer Nead and Chad Lee.
Pope, 28, was signed by the Patriots on April 23, 2003. In three NFL seasons, he punted for the Kansas City Chiefs (1999), Cincinnati Bengals (2000) and the New York Jets (2001), appearing in 33 games and averaging 40.9 yards per punt on 199 punts. He was released by the Chicago Bears on Aug. 25, 2002 and was out of football for the season.
Nead, 25, was drafted by the Patriots in the seventh round (234th overall) of the 2003 NFL draft. He appeared in both of the Patriots preseason games.
Lee, 22, was signed by the Patriots as a non-drafted rookie free agent on May 2, 2003 after starring at Louisville.
