There was an upgrade to the attendance report, as running back Shane Vereen (left foot) was the only missing player. O-lineman Nick McDonald (right arm) was back in uniform after missing several practices. Meanwhile, tight end Visanthe Shiancoe was placed on injured reserve/designated for return late yesterday.
New tight end Michael Hoomanawanui spoke for a while with reporters at his new home in the Patriots locker room. First off, he gave us a correct pronunciation of his surname: ho-OH-ma-NA-wa-NOO-ee, with a particular emphasis on the NOO. His most common nicknames, he added, are "Hoo-man" and "Uh-oh."
Update from yesterday: the practice squad wide receiver wearing jersey 19 is Kerry Taylor, who was with the team as recently as the preseason finale at New York. He has taken the place of Sam Kirkland.
More locker room updates are available on patriots.com. And the full injury report will be updated here on the blog later this afternoon.
UPDATE… 3:37 PM
The club just announced that its co-captains for 2012 are the same as last season: QB Tom Brady, LG Logan Mankins, LB Jerod Mayo, DT Vince Wilfork, CB Devin McCourty, and special teams ace Matthew Slater.
UPDATE … 4:53 PM
New England's injury report, along with Tennessee's, remains relatively light going into Week 1.
The Patriots list six players: Vereen was the lone player who did not participate. Tight end Daniel Fells (shin), corner Sterling Moore (knee), and right tackle Sebastian Vollmer (back) were limited in their participation, as was McDonald. Safety Patrick Chung (shoulder) took part fully.
Down in Nashville, six players were listed there as well: starting left defensive tackle Sen'Derrick Marks (knee), tackle Mike Otto (finger/knee), and defensive end Scott Solomon (knee) did not practice. Defensive tackle Jurrell Casey (elbow) and linebacker Zac Diles (hamstring) both took part fully. They were all listed yesterday as well. Starting left guard Steve Hutchinson was added today as a DNP, but his absence was not injury related.
