… The calendar still says it's summer, but, boy, was it a perfectly crisp, autumn-like day in New England when the Patriots took to the practice field around midday. Blue skies, a light breeze, temps in the 60s. The team closed out the week as they had throughout, in shorts, shells, and helmets down on the Revolution field.
… Only two absentees again, same as yesterday: defensive lineman Mike Wright (concussion) and center Dan Koppen (fibula).
… The media was kicked off the practice field right when the team stretching period ended, so, unfortunately, no other tidbits to offer from today's on-field action because we weren't there to see it.
… Stop me if you've heard this before, but the Patriots made yet another roster transaction to their practice squad. O-lineman Nick McDonald, who was cut yesterday to accommodate Thomas Welch's return, is back. Rookie receiver Kerry Taylor had to be let go to make room for McDonald.
… Right tackle Sebastian Vollmer was among today's locker room interview subjects. We'll hear from him about his attempts to come back from his recent back injury. A full report will be up on patriots.com shortly. And if you're a fan of our training camp "Getting to Know" features, you'll be happy to learn that we're extending those now into the regular season and targeting some of the more high-profile players on the roster. I talked with wide receiver Julian Edelman today and he was great. Look for his entertaining feature in the next issue of PFW.
UPDATE … 4:29 p.m.
The final injury report of the week is out, and linebacker Jerod Mayo has been added to it. He's listed as PROBABLE with a thigh injury. Tight end Dan Gronkowski has also been added, also PROBABLE, with a hamstring. Koppen and Wright are officially OUT, while Vollmer is QUESTIONABLE, along with linebacker Gary Guyton (hamstring), wide receiver Taylor Price (hamstring), and o-lineman Ryan Wendell (calf). Safety Josh Barrett (thumb), cornerback Leigh Bodden (back), and linebacker Dane Fletcher (thumb) are PROBABLE.
