As expected, the Baltimore Ravens decided to match New England's offer sheet to restricted free agent offensive tackle Spencer Folau.
The 6-5, 300-pound Folau, a backup tackle with the Ravens, signed the offer sheet with the Patriots Monday night. Baltimore had until 4 p.m. Friday to match the offer but didn't wait that long, matching it on Wednesday and retaining his rights. The Boston Globe reported that the offer was for two years and $2.7 million although the Patriots did not confirm that.
Folau played in six games with one start in 1999. After joining the Ravens as a rookie free agent in 1996, he had four starts in 27 games. Folau spent the 1996 season on Baltimore's practice squad after completing his college career with Division I-AA Idaho.
