Though a free agent visit in New York late this week concluded without Stevan Ridley reaching a contract agreement with the Jets, reports indicate that the running back is not expected to return to the Patriots for 2015.
According to the New York Daily News, “the feeling is that he’ll likely end up with the Jets or Dolphins.”
Ridley previously met with Miami for a free agent visit and the report also says the running back has "at least one visit lined up for next week."
Ridley is a former third-round pick out of LSU who spent each of his four seasons with the Patriots. He rushed for more than 1,200 yards in New England in 2012 but was limited to just six games last season due to a torn ACL.
If Ridley does sign elsewhere it would leave LeGarrette Blount as the likely candidate for the bulk of New England's carries in 2015 as the veteran on a mostly inexperienced and unproven list options for its running back committee. Of course the Patriots could still address the position via free agency (former Saints versatile back Pierre Thomas remains unsigned) or dip into a very strong and deep draft class.
