NESN's website is reporting that New England has expressed interest in signing veteran wide receiver Jason Avant, late of the Philadelphia Eagles.
That same report, however, which cites an unnamed source, indicates that a signing is not imminent, nor has a visit with Avant been scheduled. So, how much "interest" New England could possibly have in the 6-0, 212-pound pass catcher remains to be seen.
The 30-year-old Avant average slightly more than 12 yards per catch in eight season with Philly. He started 13 of 16 games for the Eagles last season, though his most productive campaigns were in 2011 and '12, when he caught 52 and 53 passes for 679 and 648 yards respectively. In eight NFL seasons, Avant has caught just 12 touchdowns.
