According to multiple reports, and citing tweets from his agent as well as the player himself, former Cardinals All-Pro safety Adrian Wilson has reached an agreement with the Patriots.

Wilson was reportedly in Foxborough Friday to visit with New England and appears to have decided it was the place for him to extend what has already been an extremely impressive 12-year career.

While playing the relative obscurity in the desert of Arizona, Wilson has been among the best defensive backs in the NFL in the last decade. In the Rodney Harrison mold, Wilson is one of just six players in history with at least 25 sacks and 25 interceptions in his career.

As so much of the free agent news has, word of Wilson's addition to the Patriots roster comes via social media. His agent, Tory Dandy, got the ball rolling on Twitter:

"Congrats to client @adrian_wilson24 on signing with the New England Patriots!"

Later, Wilson offered his thoughts from his own Twitter account:

"#PATRIOTSNATION. I'LL TRY MY BEST TO TWEET. REALLY EXCITED ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY. GREAT FANS AND GREAT TEAM!!!!"

The 33-year-old Wilson played 15 games for the Cardinals last fall with 54 tackles, three sacks and an interception. He's played in at least 15 games in each of the last five seasons, and all 16 games in eight of his 12 years in the league. His career numbers include 25.5 sacks, 27 interceptions, 14 forced fumbles and eight fumble recoveries.

While Wilson clearly isn't still the elite player he once was, he certainly adds a veteran presence in the back end in New England – both on and off the field. He could be a huge addition as a strong safety type next to Devin McCourty, joining a depth chart that also includes last year's starterSteve Gregory as well as second-year, second-round pick Tavon Wilson.
