Report: Pats ask Ochocinco to restructure

After a first year in New England in which Chad Ochocinco collected nearly $6 million while catching just 15 passes with one touchdown many assumed the former Pro Bowl receiver would be sent packing in the offseason.

But that may not be the case, as a Twitter report from the Sports Business Journal's Liz Mullen indicates that the Patriots have asked the receiver to restructure his contract. Ochocinco is due salaries of $3 million in each of the next two seasons.

At the NFL Scouting Combine last week Patriots director of player personnel Nick Caserio was asked about Ochocinco and whether the Twitter-friendly pass catcher would be back with the team in 2012.

"He's under contract. So, if he's under contract, he'll be here," Caserio said.

Pro Football Talk confirmed the SBJ story on Ochocinco and wrote: "There's a much greater chance that, if he won't re-do his deal, he'll be cut before the 2012 season begins."

What do you think of the report that the Patriots have asked Ochocinco to restructure his contract, meaning that he could be back in 2012? Do you want him back for another go-round? Let us know with a comment below!
