According to multiple reports, the Patriots signed veteran tight end Visanthe Shiancoe to a one-year deal. Shiancoe, who has enjoyed productive stints with the Giants and Vikings in the past, was reportedly weighing deals from the Eagles and Patriots before opting for New England.
The Patriots interest in an additional tight end throughout the spring and summer is interesting considering the talent the team currently has on the roster at the position. However, free agent signee Daniel Fells has not been seen at any of the workouts open to the media and is one of the players reported to be starting camp on the active/PUP list earlier in the week. Perhaps the desire to add tight end depth is an indication that whatever injury kept Fells off the field is serious, and Bill Belichick wanted to ensure he would not be caught short at a position that has become increasingly vital in the team's offense.
