For four days the quarterback situation in Foxborough has been the talk of the NFL.
Now, hours before the Patriots host the Texans at Gillette Stadium on Thursday Night Football, reports indicate that some definition has been brought to the New England quarterback depth chart. Of course that depends on which report you read.
According to NFL Network, rookie third-round pick Jacoby Brissett will make his first career start against the Texans, just four days after making his NFL debut when he came on to hold on for the victory over the Dolphins. NFLN also reports that Jimmy Garoppolo, just four days removed from suffering what's been reported as a grade 2 sprain of the AC joint in his right throwing shoulder, will apparently dress and be the backup quarterback against Houston.
That would leave wide receiver Julian Edelman as the team's emergency third quarterback, a role he's held in the past.
Brissett completed six of his nine passes in two-plus quarters of work in the win last Sunday agianst Miami, for 92 yards and a 100.2 passer rating. Those throws mostly came on short, high-percentage passes. It will certainly be interesting to see what kind off game plan the Patriots utilize for their young passer on the short week.
But shortly after the NFLN reports surfaced on Twitter, ESPNBoston.com's Mike Reiss brought new and different information to the Patriots quarterback puzzle. Reiss left the door open, but he reports that Garoppolo may not be in uniform on Thursday night.
