BREAKDOWN:** The Patriots have an opportunity to return their starting line from 2013 completely intact if they'd like. Wendell re-signed as a free agent while Vollmer is back from the broken leg that ended his season early. But the Patriots also drafted three offensive linemen in May and they have a few others returning after a year in the system. Connolly and Wendell appear to be candidates to be replaced depending on the development of the kids. Connolly's cap number is north of $4 million and if a player like Kline, who started at left guard without incident due to injury last season, shows he's ready for a bigger role, he could be jettisoned at a savings of $3 million. Stork and Halapio are also candidates for interior spots. Working in Connolly's favor is his versatility, however, as he's played center in the past and could put the undersized Wendell on shaky ground. The more likely scenario would be for the five incumbents to remain in place while new offensive line coach Dave DeGuglielmo works with the youngsters – both on the active roster and the practice squad. We'll get a better feel for this competition during camp when the pads are on since few players are tougher to gauge without contact than offensive linemen.
