NEW ORLEANS (April 9, 2006) -- Special-teams ace Michael Lewis signed a three-year deal with the New Orleans Saints.

Lewis, who worked as a beer truck driver before making the Saints' roster five years ago, is the team's all-time leader in punt-return yardage and kickoff-return yardage.

The 5-foot-8, 173-pound Lewis has returned 206 kickoffs for 4,989 yards with three touchdowns. He has returned 126 punts for 1,371 yards with one touchdown. Lewis has also recorded 43 special-teams tackles, and caught 28 passes for 533 yards with one touchdown.

Last season, Lewis sustained a season-ending knee injury in Week 2.

His best year was in 2002, when he was voted to the Pro Bowl. Lewis broke the NFL record for combined return yardage (2,432) and became the seventh player in NFL history to return a kickoff and punt for a touchdown in the same game.
