Tagliabue takes a tour of the Superdome

As repairs continue, Louisiana Superdome officials hope to find a large corporation to buy naming rights to the facility.

NEW ORLEANS (July 25, 2006) -- As repairs continue, Louisiana Superdome officials hope to find a large corporation to buy naming rights to the facility.

The announcement came just after a tour of the Superdome by NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue, Governor Kathleen Blanco and Saints owner Tom Benson.

Doug Thornton, the regional vice president of SMG, the company that manages the Superdome, says he's hopeful the Superdome can acquire a naming rights partner by Sept. 2. That's the day of the New Orleans Saints' first home game against the Atlanta Falcons.

Both Tagliabue and Blanco complimented the progress at the facility, where more than 18,000 of the city's residents sweltered for days after Hurricane Katrina, suffering through shortages of food and water.
