Congrats to Sean O'Connor of the U.S. Army, our Hero of the Week! Sean's mother-in-law nominated him with the submission below:
"Specialist Sean O'Connor mustered on the grounds of Fort Stewart, GA at 8:30pm on October 24, 2012 after a nine month deployment to Afghanistan attached to a special forces unit. His background includes a childhood in Massachusetts. He graduated from Ware High School, the University of Massachusetts (Amherst), and then joined the Army. He and my daughter Hallie started dating in 10th grade (she graduated from Bridgewater State) and they married 1 week after he finished basic training. They are not only high school sweethearts, they are soul mates. He had many arduous missions while serving in Afghanistan which civilians like us cannot be privy to, but I know his drive, intensity, and loyalty, and I know whatever he was involved with, he was successful. Sean has been a lifelong Patriots fan; so much so, his wife got him tickets to the Jacksonville game as a welcome home gift. In the many packages he received from home, one of his favorites included the 2012 Patriots Yearbook which he proudly read in front of his Patriot-hating platoon-mates. It makes me smile to think about it. Sean is a quality young man, a loving husband who has always treated my daughter with deference, a patriot who will always put country before self, and a Patriots fan of paramount intensity. Although he and Hallie now reside off base in Georgia, he remains a die-hard loyal New England Patriots fan and this is why I nominate him for 'Hero of the Week'." – Barbara Topor
