In ther sixth week of foxtrotting, tangoing and waltzing, former New England Patriot Doug Flutie and his partner Karina Smirnoff were eliminated from "Dancing with the Stars" Monday night.
Doug and Karina scored a 21 from the judges for their Bollywood performance, and while the judges commended Doug for looking more comfortable and having fun, the pair couldn't stave off elimination.
"[It was] just an amazing experience – getting to know Karina, dancing with the whole group as a family. We've all been together," Doug said. "Thank you guys so much. It's been an unbelievable experience."
The audience, judges and dancers broke into a "Flutie, Flutie, Flutie" chant as he said his goodbyes. Doug and Karina made an appearance on "Good Morning America" to talk about their time on the show, and George Stephanopoulos asked him if the chants brought him back to his football days.
"It was fun. We got that just about every week and it was so heartwarming," Doug said. "It puts me at ease and makes you a little more relaxed. I know I'm a nervous wreck going out there, but it was really nice."
Though dancing is vastly different from world of football Doug is used to, he said Karina helped push him throughout the process.
"Her job was to make me comfortable being uncomfortable, and she did it," Doug said. "She pulled me out of my shell a little bit."
Doug's days on "Dancing with the Stars" may be over, but if the Patriots need any halftime entertainment, we hope his phone will ring.
