Giants release DE Keith Washington

The New York Giants released starting defensive end Keith Washington a day after cutting starting tackle Norman Hand.

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (March 15, 2005) -- The New York Giants released starting defensive end Keith Washington a day after cutting starting tackle Norman Hand.

Washington missed the second half of the season after suffering a major knee injury against Chicago on Nov. 7, the same day fellow defensive end Michael Strahan was lost for the season with a torn pectoral muscle.

Washington had 17 tackles, a sack and a fumble recovery last season. He has played in 119 career games with 31 starts and recorded 217 tackles (139 solo), 10 sacks, three forced fumbles, five fumble recoveries, 16 special-teams tackles and two blocked field goals.

Washington was signed as free agent on March 28, 2003. He started six games in his first season in New York, finishing with 27 tackles, a sack and two fumble recoveries.

He also has played for Denver, Baltimore, Minnesota and Detroit.
