Mankins, Dennard return to practice; new WR added

News from Gillette Stadium as the Patriots prepare for their next opponent, the Indianapolis Colts.

The Patriots got some much-needed good news on the injury front, just a couple days after placing linebacker Brandon Spikes (knee) on injured reserve. Left guard/co-captain Logan Mankins (left ankle) and starting cornerback Alfonzo Dennard (knee/shoulder) were back on the field after missing last week's workouts.

Today's session was taken indoors due to the arctic cold front that's swept into the New England region.

Rookie WR Aaron Dobson (left foot) was the only Patriots not in uniform. He hasn't been able to suit up since aggravating his injury against the Bills in Week 17. With an open roster spot resulting from Spikes' move to IR, the club bolstered its depth at wideout by adding a player – as yet unknown – who was wearing jersey 84 at today's session.
