"Since the Dolphins signed Brent Grimes to a four-year, $32 million contract, including $16 million guaranteed, that baseline for this class of prized free agents has been established," writes Howe.

Mike Reiss of ESPNBoston.com would be "surprised" if the Patriots make an aggressive push to sign Broncos free agent WR Eric Decker this offseason. He believes Decker's performance in the Super Bowl raised questions about paying the 26-year-old wideout big money.

"When I think of free-agent receivers, I'd look in the lower price range toward the likes of Emmanuel Sanders (Steelers), Jacoby Jones (Ravens), Dexter McCluster (Chiefs), Kenny Britt (Titans), Tiquan Underwood (Buccaneers) and Austin Collie (Patriots) as more likely possibilities," adds Reiss. "When you think about what it's going to cost to keep Talib on a long-term deal, what the costs are from an off-field risk standpoint, it's very easy to get yourself to the point where you can justify making a run at Revis," said Florio. "And you throw in the icing on the cake of sticking it to the Jets.
