CHARLOTTE, N.C. (March 31, 2005) -- Free agent safety Idrees Bashir signed with the Carolina Panthers.
Bashir, a second-round selection in the 2001 draft, started 13 games for the Indianapolis Colts last season.
In 51 games overall with the Colts, the 6-foot-2, 198-pound Bashir had 282 tackles and five interceptions.
The Panthers are in the process of overhauling their secondary, which management considered one of the team's weakest areas last season.
Bashir's signing comes after the team has already signed cornerback Ken Lucas and safety Marlon McCree in free agency. Coach John Fox has already said both starting cornerback positions are up for grabs.
Terms of Bashir's deal with Carolina were not disclosed.
