Michael Felger of the Boston Herald offers the first in a series of position-by-position looks at the Patriots heading into the start of training camp which begins July 29. Today, Felger takes a look at the Patriots defensive backs.

Mike Reiss of the MetroWest Daily News offers his daily sports blog with Patriots notes. Reiss notes that current franchise player Adam Vinatieri is currently signed to a one-year contract for $2.5 million and talks have been underway for some time to get a long-term deal done. Vinatieri could be in line for one of the richest contracts ever for a kicker because of his clutch work and pinpoint accuracy. He could demand a contract similar to that of Denver Broncos Jason Elam or Miami's Olindo Mare, which means at least a $3 million bonus.

Finally, Sam Farmer of the Los Angeles Times offers a story on Tedy Bruschi. Bruschi, whose playing status for the 2005 season is still unknown, is one of the latest athletes to be forced to weigh the risks of making a return from a serious health issue.
