The Boston Globe reports LB Tully Banta-Cain has been released. Currently in his seventh season in the league, the Patriots drafted Banta-Cain in the seventh round in 2003. He was tied with DL Mike Wright with three sacks for the team lead.

In a suprise move to many, Patriots coach Bill Belichick benched LB Adalius Thomas last Sunday against the Tenneessee Titans. Belichick stated the team "went with the players we thought would have the bigger role in the game" and "It was one game. We'll evaluate it this coming week against Tampa like we always do," regarding this Sunday's game in London according to the Boston Herald. However, Belichick did share some praise for the veteran linebacker. "He's a good football player," Belichick said. "He's versatile. He's made some big plays for us and he's done a lot of different jobs. We have a lot of confidence in him."
The Worcester Telegram & Gazette believes the Patriots will not make a deal during today's NFL trade deadline set for 4 p.m. The team has not made a deadline deal in Bill Belichick's nine years as head coach.
