If he makes that play, New England most likely win the Super Bowl.
But Patriots DL Jarvis Green couldn't quite hold on to Giants QB Eli Manning just prior to his miracle completion to WR David Tyree last month in Arizona.
"Knowing I was that close, it hurts inside," Green admitted in a Boston Herald feature today. "But that's sports. That's football."
The memory may still hurt, but it's not enough to bring tears to Green's eyes. Something more important caused that recently. During a taping of the Montel williams Show, Green presented a victim of Hurricane Katrina - a single mother of four who became homeless after the storm - with a check for $25,000.
“I was shedding tears. Montel was shedding tears. Everybody (was crying), even the people in the crowd. It was an amazing experience," Green recalled. "When (I gave her that check), her heart just dropped. The expression on her face, it's something that made me smile. It's something I won't ever forget."
That episode of "Montel" is scheduled to air today. Check your local listings.
Back in Foxboro, meanwhile, Green teammate, RB Sammy Morris, continues to recover from a season-ending chest injury.
He told The Boston Globe that he actually began lifting weights right around the Super Bowl and is eager for the 2008 season to begin so he can get back on the field.
"I'm really pleased with my progress," said Morris. "The doctors say everything looks good and that it was a freak injury, but that guys bounce back from it.
"More importantly, the way I feel, physically, just being able to do stuff and that I can push myself - at the same time not overdoing it - I feel optimistic about being able to contribute this year."
With the NFL Draft fast approaching, the Pats continue to meet with prospects. According to the Globe, New England held a private workout with Auburn DE/OLB **Quentin Groves** earlier this month. And in a Draft Diary on the NFL Players Association website, Nebraska corner **Zack Bowman** talked a little about his meeting with the Patriots.
"I actually met with the New England Patriots on Tuesday before my Pro Day. I was able to get a chance to talk to them and get to know them as they got to know me, and we watched a ton of film. It went well and I thank them for taking the time to come out and watch film with me."
