Patriots Postgame Quotes

New England Patriots players comment on their 27-25 win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday, August 13, 2009.

TE Chris Baker

On his feelings about the couple of touchdowns he had:

"I went on and focused on some things today and I had a good game but still feel like I have things to work on. I think I got off to a good start but still have some things that I need to progress with."

On his feelings about the play of [QB Tom] Brady in the game:

"I think that he was really sharp in the game. He was able to move us up and down the field and put some points on the board. I think all of us on offense think he did a pretty good job out there."

On how comfortable he himself was in a new offense:

"It is still a work in progress for me learning this offense. I am working hard and this is a very complex offense. I am starting now to feel better though. Our coaching staff has really focused on our red zone production during camp and I think we did some good things."

On how he felt scoring two touchdowns:

"I think that I can get open with [WR Randy] Moss out there being covered as heavy as he will. It is really up to me to get out there and beat the man coverage. I expect that I will be able to do that and have good things happen. I was very excited to get in the end zone this game because last season I did not. That was the first time in my career that I did not get in the end zone."

G Logan Mankins

On the play of [QB Tom] Brady in the game:

"I think he played well and really hit a lot of receivers. It really felt like the old Tom was out there. We love him around here because he does so many things well."

On if they were running quick calls to get the offense used to Brady again:

"I do not think that was the plan tonight but preseason is about practicing what you are going to do during the season. I think we want to get a lot of things into the game with him out there so it might appear that way. I think we did some good things out there are some things we still need to work on."

On if the team has been working on the red zone offense a lot:

"In training camp we really have been working on a lot of things and the red zone has been some of it. The coaches make sure we work on everything. We work on first down offense, and two minute offense and of course the red zone so we are prepared in the preseason."

RB Kevin Faulk

On what he feels he will bring to the team this season:

"Whether I am asked to run the ball or do kick off returns I will do whatever I am asked. But in general you have to be a professional and do what is asked of you."

On whether he felt the offense accomplished a lot for their first game:

"I think there were some mistakes we made and I am sure they will be pointed out on the films tomorrow. Knowing this great coaching staff they will have seen some things and point them out and we will make some changes."

On whether overall he thought the team played well in the game:

"I think that we played well tonight. We played well together tonight and we will build from this. We played well tonight and we will pat each other on the back but we have to move on and learn more."

DL Richard Seymour

On the play of the defensive line tonight:

"I think we played well and the preseason games are big for the guys on the inside. Games during the season are won and lost here and we have to work hard at these preseason games. We really have to work hard on rushing the passer and stopping the run. If teams can run the ball on the defense once the season starts then you will not be a good football team. I think the defense has been a strength to this team the last couple of years."

On if they felt they played the 4-3 defense well tonight:

"I think tonight we tried out a bunch of combination of guys and it went pretty well. I think that we will show different guys up front this season with the 4-3 and sometimes the 3-4. We will want to mix it up. I think when we do that we give ourselves a better chance to win. I think that we will watch the films and make some adjustments that will make us even stronger."

On whether the team already has high expectation on season with Brady back:

"I think around here our expectations every year are to win. I think we are still along way away from being totally were we want to be. I do though think that we have a very good football team. We still have a lot of work to do on the defensive side of the ball. This was just our first preseason game but I would be kidding myself if my expectations are not high. This is a great organization who expects good things every year."

DL Myron Pryor

On whether he was surprised that he started:

"I was happy to start and that my number was called. I still have some improving to do and have some good work to do. I feel that for starting I did a good job but still have things that I myself want to improve on. It is preseason though and they wanted to give the young guys some good work. So I am not totally surprised that they wanted to see what I can do."

On whether he was tired with not having a lot of practices under his belt:

"I did not expect that I would play as much as I did in the game. But when an opportunity is given to you, you have to take advantage of that. If the coach wants to start me I will work hard to make myself known. I am going to do whatever I need to do to have my teammates have faith in me and make the team. I really did not feel that I was sucking air out there and that made me feel good."

On how he felt getting his first NFL sack:

"I felt great about that. I do not get too excited because the guys would get on me if I did. I always feel that I could do a lot better and give my team a better show. I do want to get in even better shape and the coaches feel I have a good motor inside me and I want to continue to just get better."
