FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - The New England Patriots announced today that they have signed free agent DL Landon Cohen. In addition, the Patriots released DL Louis Leonard.
Cohen, 6-3, 300 pounds, is in his third NFL season after spending time with the Detroit Lions (2008-09) and Jacksonville Jaguars (2010). He has played in 22 NFL games and accumulated 26 total tackles.
Cohen was originally drafted by Detroit in the seventh round of the 2008 NFL draft out of Ohio. He played in six games as a rookie in 2008 and 14 games with four starts in his second season in 2009. He was waived by Detroit on Sept 4, 2010 and claimed off waived by Jacksonville. Cohen played in two games for the Jaguars in 2010 before being released on Nov. 9.
Leonard, 6-4, 325 pounds, was signed by the Patriots on Dec. 15 and played as a reserve in last Sunday night's victory vs. Green Bay. He is in his fourth NFL season after spending time with the St. Louis Rams (2007), Cleveland Browns (2007-08) and Carolina Panthers (2009-10). He originally joined the NFL as a rookie free agent with the San Diego Chargers in 2007 out of Fresno State.
