Patriots sign QB Jonathan Crompton and DL Lorenzo Washington practice squad

The New England Patriots announced today that they have signed rookie QB Jonathan Crompton and DL Lorenzo Washington to the practice squad. In addition, the Patriots placed WR Darnell Jenkins on the practice squad injured list with a knee injury.

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - The New England Patriots announced today that they have signed rookie QB Jonathan Crompton and DL Lorenzo Washington to the practice squad. In addition, the Patriots placed WR Darnell Jenkins on the practice squad injured list with a knee injury.

Crompton, 6-3, 222 pounds, was originally drafted by the San Diego Chargers in the fifth round of the 2010 NFL Draft out of Tennessee. He was waived by San Diego on Sept. 4. Crompton was signed to the San Diego practice squad on Sept. 5 but was waived from the squad on Sept. 7. He finished his college career as the seventh leading passer in Tennessee history.

Washington, 6-4, 296, was originally signed by the Dallas Cowboys as a rookie free agent out of Alabama on April 25, 2010. He was waived by Dallas on July, 29. Washington finished his collegiate career with 70 total tackles and six sacks in 49 games.

Jenkins, 5-10, 191 pounds, originally joined the NFL as a rookie free agent with Houston in 2008 out of Miami. After spending the 2008 season on the Texans practice squad, he spent time on the practice squads of Cleveland, Tampa Bay and New England in 2009. Jenkins went to training camp with New England in 2010 but was waived on Sept. 4 and signed to the practice squad on Sept. 6.
