SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The New England Patriots announced that they have waived two players today, safety Tony George and punter Dan Hadenfeldt.
George, 26, was originally drafted by the Patriots in the third round of the 1999 NFL draft, the 91st overall selection out of Florida. The 5-foot-11-inch, 206-pound safety played in 31 games, including one start and recorded 25 career tackles in two seasons with the Patriots. During the spring, he played in 10 games with the Frankfurt Galaxy of NFL Europe during the 2001 season and recorded 41 tackles (36 solos) and one interception.
Hadenfeldt, 24, was signed by the Patriots as a rookie free agent on April 27, 2001. He was waived by the Patriots on Aug. 3, 2001 and re-signed prior to Friday night's game against the New York Giants (8/10/01). The 5-foot-10-inch, 195-pound punter finished his Nebraska career with 104 punts for 4,632 yards and a 44.5 average.
